We are coming up on a new year and Christmas is upon us. Many of us will be spending the holidays with family and friends outside of our virtual worlds. While I usually post my new items and updates on my Discord group I have been neglecting my blog here. This post will be a little bit long as I begin to add updates throughout.
The most recent news is that through the magic of local mesh and much time on my part I have been slowly working through some of my mesh item creations to bring LaraX versions of those items to you. however, since I'm basically guessing on the weights as I test items through how they move with my own animations, and shape changes they may be really close but in some cases they might not fit perfectly. I am working on trying to get the official dev kits to get a better process going. for now I am working with the best work around that I can come up with. once new dev kits become available to me I hope to provide updates to those items which will be free to anyone who has purchased the pre-dev kit creations. These items are ones that have been designed for other bodies that I have kits for so they are not totally all guess work. and I tend to spend entire days trying to get the shape and weights as close as possible just to bring a product that is acceptable.
Re-fitting and Custom Fitting news
Since the fitting for the LaraX isn't 100% I am offering free custom fitting for those purchasing those items if significant differences are noticeable. The Cross dress seen above was an example of a new outfit that worked well when refitting for LaraX. But one that had given me a lot of trouble was an older item called the Ringed Corset because this product in general was a challenge with all it's different parts that had to be weighted separately and none of them exactly shared the same weights to be certain they moved in the same direction since they don't exactly pull on each other's points to help guide the direction.
A little something few buyers realize is that clothing in second life can only be optimized for one of two situations. weights are limited to only 4 per point or face. this limits the ability for creators to fully fit items. We can optimize those weights for either movement or for shape and size. Since movement is an important function for submersion in the virtual world it generally takes precedence leaving shape to be handled through multiple versions of the same article of clothing for the same body with different shapes. That could mean 3 to 5 different mesh objects for the same clothing item fitted to the same mesh body.Unfortunately for me 5 bodies, would equal 25 mesh models for the same clothing item when weights are not offered by a mesh body creator. We all understand, everyone is afraid of the mesh object pirates. and no creator wants to have their hard work pirated but if they really want it, it seems they will find a way to get it. I don't have other people working with me so 25 versions of the same clothing object would take forever for me to get completed. The better solution is to offer something along the middle ground. I tend to go middle to curvy when I create fittings. That means that the very Pettie and flat chested ladies or (itty bitties) probably aren't going to fit into what I have made. and the other extreme of juicy and vivacious oversized Ladies are going to have many issues with peek through on certain clothing items. Particularly ones that exact weights and shapes are not available out of world to work with.
Right now, for me that is the situation with Maitreya for my mesh. However, there is a light at the end of that tunnel. because of the wonderful invention of local mesh, I can tweak and edit and see how something is fitting on my own avatar. But it does require knowing the exact slider settings of upper and lower body and general overall body to do this thickness and/or fatness. Additionally, it may require knowing if modifiers are being used, such as soft arms, soft thighs, breast modifiers, butt modifiers and if wigglers, jiggles, or physics are being used because all of these make a difference when it comes to peek through. while some issues can be hidden by using your body hud alpha settings, others to close to the open edges of the clothing would require a dedicated alpha or shape or weight modification of the mesh. This is the reason I will ask for that information from you if you request a custom fitting.
Inappropriate Product Reviews
I have noticed more and more of this lately. It's not just on my own mesh or within my own marketplace store but also within other creator's stores as well. Because of course I shop just like anyone else does. It amazes me that people tend to respond with the knee jerk reactions and post the nasties comments imaginable on product reviews. some of which aren't even truly related to the product or are a result of the customer not bothering to read the information provided. It's becoming a real problem. especially when customers don't bother to contact the maker with issues that they might be having. In most cases an active creator will respond and help you with the problem you are having, even if it's due to your negligence in not reading the product details. We know allot of people are "assemble first ask questions or read instructions only when all else fails."
The problem with that is these reviews is that it makes a perfectly good product appear to be bad or the seller to be uncaring when it's simply not the case. The only thing I can suggest is to take reviews with a grain of salt and read what the complaint was about. Maybe even ask the creator to clarify what is wrong with the product that the user left such a review if you are truly in doubt. The other suggesting is to try the demo for yourself. People are in general fickle and let's face it we have some of the pickiest and most entitled individuals in our second life. Not everyone is that way, but those that are make sure everyone knows it and they make the rest of us who try to be good people look like... well I'll let you choose the word to use here as I'm sure you have one of your own. If you are one of those individuals, you're probably not reading my blogs, but I'm sorry, us creators are doing our best to provide you with something, we didn't have to.
New Products
While there have been a great many new products that I have added to my store some of them are re-fits of older products that I did not previously have available. Again, I don't have other people working with me on my mesh creations. I have had some requests for help with rigging products from other creators who make their own mesh but don't really rig or whom do not have access to the same dev kits that have, and I have had some creators who like to texture products already created ask if I would make mesh for their stores. Unfortunately, at this time I have limited time to work on my own store and its advertising. Not to mention rigging for another store while it shouldn't be an issue the makers of the bodies that actually give you dev kits like to know whom else you are rigging or making products for.
So here is a quick run down of some of the new items available for the end of the year. Of course you have already seen the images for the Cross Dress which is available for a few bodies. Reborn, Legacy, and LaraX. I still need to do the ones for Gen.X curvy and classic on several outfits but that one seems to be in less demand, so I've tried to cover the ones that are in demand first. this dress comes with some options in the form of a material hud which allows you to make transparent and or hide parts of the dress which gives it a little bit of versatility.
you have already seen the image for the Ringed Corset update for LaraX. again that one focused on the middle range to curvy fitting and features a texture hud with a few different texture options. you have red, white, blue ivy and black with blue blossoms for your main fabrics.
The Gold Trimmed Camisk is a new product as well over the last couple of weeks. This one also has a material hud giving you some transparent, hide show options as well. hide the top and wear just the skirt if you like. Also for the same three bodies. LaraX (middle range fit) legacy classic, and Reborn. Remember if your having fitting issues or need a custom fit to get in touch with me. (the nipples have been blotted out on the image below, geez I'm not that dumb)
The Elven Camisk and the Fairy Camisk are born of the same mesh and sprang from some AI portraits that I was playing with one day. I just suddenly thought the resulting image would make a wonderful outfit, so I created them as a result. Thes also still need to be fitted for Gen.X but are available for reborn, LaraX and Legacy classic. I was told that the fairy one reminds them of tinker bell and that was just what I was thinking a few days prior to being told that when I was wearing it. These also have the material hud available for them so you can fade out the top or hide it. or make the entire outfit transparent. use bright or glow to give you that pixie glow. what fun. I have a few more colors waiting to be completed and uploaded for this one depending on how well it does. more so for the fairy version than the elven version.
There are also a few more shoes in my marketplace store which you can find Here Such as loafers, strappy high heels, and some other high heels of various styles made for the same bodies as the poinsettias as well as a pair of sneakers. I hope that you will give them a try
That's all that I have for the updates at this time. for more please keep an eye on my flickr, or ask to join my discord store channel to stay updated and see the new things come out sooner. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
